I used a steel sheet (6mm I believe) and used an adhesive PEI sheet (not the magnetic type, the chamber runs at 75 Deg. My 1200 did not come with any disposable build plates. I purchased my cable on eBay US (I'm in the UK) but I am certain that this is possible to build yourself using the details and links provided in the readme section.

The software and documentation can be found here: I reload cartridges by flashing the EEPROM using an Arduino that allows me to go between I2C and USB. I spent a log time (too long) running ABS in both and trying to modify the support settings to allow breakaway supports. I don't think I will change either of these any time soon. ABS is just cheap stuff from Amazon, HIPS is from 3DJake. I am using HIPS for support and ABS for build material. I have recently discovered that if you save a custom build style in Insight and edit it with wordpad you can change the slice height to whatever you wish (as well as a whole bunch of other stuff that I would like to document and put up for discussion).

This is documented well using eychei's posts. Slice height is strangely high by default (and in inches.) this can be changed by modifying the material configuration file in the 'modelers' folder of Insight, under your machine.

The user eychei on 3dprintforums was very active a few years ago playing with the 1200 machines - an archive of his posts can be found here which I suggest reading: To get a 1200 running with Insight you'll need CatalystEX and Insight 10.6 (I think 10.6 was the last version of Insight that you could do this with). It is absolutely key that you have this in your toolchain if you want to get the most from your machine. Insight is still in use today and is the 'power users' slicing software that allows far more control. The software is severely limited in terms of functionality. Mechanically speaking the machine is outstanding and it's absolutely wasted on CatalystEX. It's tough to believe that these machines were only ever supposed to be used with CatalystEX - talk about clipping the wings of a machine. I hope to be able to re-spark discussion and raise the profile of these still capable machines. As these machines get traded in, sold for almost scrap value or binned I think we will see an increase in potential users looking for this kind of information. If you have any questions I'd love to answer them. I have been spending a few months on and off digging around in the configs of Insight and have found a couple of bits out that I'd like to document here as well as all the resources that helped me get it going.

I'm currently running a Stratasys 1200 SST with Insight 10.6 which is lovely dinosaur but I think there's more to be had from it in terms of quality and versatility of setup which I hope to detail below, as well as what I have had to do to get my machine running.
